Guns or Glitter? Fun Gender Reveal Party Ideas, Games & Decor (Australia)

Gender reveal parties have become incredibly popular over the years, giving expectant parents a fun and meaningful way to share their exciting news with family and friends. When it came time to reveal the gender of our youngest child, we chose a playful and slightly cheeky "Guns or Glitter?" gender reveal party.

We kept things intimate with a small gathering of our closest family here in Australia, which made the moment even more special. The anticipation was high, emotions were running strong, and when the big reveal finally happened, the joy in the room was unforgettable. It was one of those moments that stays with you forever.

If you are planning your own celebration, I hope our experience gives you inspiration, practical ideas and a few easy wins for creating a heartfelt gender reveal party that feels personal and stress-free.

Waddle Baby Be? Gender Reveal Party Game

Any get-together is more memorable with a simple party game, and for our gender reveal, we kept it fun and meaningful with just one.

Beau and I had only just received the news at our gender reveal scan, so time was limited. The game we chose was called "Waddle Baby Be?", and it was perfect for building excitement while keeping things relaxed.

Guests were invited to guess the baby’s gender by writing their name under either the "Guns" or "Glitter" column. Our kids, Donte and Isla, absolutely loved collecting everyone’s guesses and were just as excited as the adults to find out whether they were getting a little brother or sister.

As a keepsake, I created a printable version of this game, which we later scrapbooked into our baby album. I have included the same FREE printable template so you can print it at home and use it for your own gender reveal party.

Easy Gender Reveal Party Food Ideas

Food is always one of my favourite parts of planning a party, and for this gender reveal, I wanted options that were quick, fun and didn’t require baking.

It was close to Easter, so Hot Cross Buns were an easy win. I simply added pink and blue icing and labelled them "Pink Buns" and "Blue Buns". Simple, affordable and very on-theme.

Cupcakes were another crowd favourite and were displayed with playful place cards reading "Cupcake or Stud Muffin?".

One of my personal favourites was the M&Ms, divided into two bowls and labelled "Nuts or No Nuts". These little touches always get a laugh and spark conversation.

I also picked up pink and blue Pringles during my shop, which just happened to be a pregnancy craving at the time. They fit the theme perfectly and rounded out the table nicely.

Easy Gender Reveal Pinata Cake

If you are short on time, this gender reveal pinata cake hack is a lifesaver.

Even with just an hour to spare after our scan, I was able to put this together quickly using four store-bought sponge cakes and Betty Crocker vanilla frosting.

I stacked three layers, cut a circle out of the centre, and filled it with pink and blue choc rocks that I had picked up earlier that day. The final sponge layer went on top, finished with frosting and pink, blue and white sugar stars.

Pink or Blue? The Big Reveal

After four long months of waiting, Beau and I attended our 4D gender scan at Precious Previews. Seeing our baby on the screen was emotional and surreal all at once.

Once the scan was complete, it was straight back home to finish party preparations and bake the cake before our guests arrived.

When the moment finally came, we cut the cake together and watched pink choc rocks spill out. We were having a baby girl. The kids’ reactions were priceless, and sharing the 4D scan video with everyone made the night even more special.
